The new-age recruitment experts!
The new age youth has changed the dynamics of hiring. Stereotypes of typical hiring with standard questions and canned answers don’t cut it any more. Businesses (especially startups) are striving to get noticed to attract the best talent. The digital age has redefined the way interviews are conducted and recruitments are handled.
A recent survey shows that over 94% recruiters are now using social media to hire the best talent (LinkedIn topping amongst that) and over 71% of already employed professionals are likely to still seek opportunities. Startups have significantly changed the hiring landscape by sourcing talent from disparate fields like banks, financial institutions, law firms and the like. The pay packages are enormously attractive for the experience that such professionals bring to a business. Staff engagement and rewards are at an all time high.
Resumes’ are undergoing a transformation. No longer are those two pages of your experience considered enough to know what your skills really are. Recruiters trust your social media account activity more than they trust what you tell them. So, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are important.
Recruiters are also moving away from only posting job opportunities on popular portals. To discover appropriate talent, recruiters don’t only look at the pool of candidates who have directly applied to them. More emphasis (thankfully) is being placed on how trainable you are rather than how much of a direct experience you have for a profile. You could have a completely different background and still get placed anywhere. The generation of ‘founders’ prefers to hand-pick and train people.
The emphasis is on showcasing how different you are as against conventional. Don’t be surprised to hear a lot of questions about your hobbies rather than what you did in your last job!
If you look at it, traditional paper based CV being handed in person for applying to a job is non-existent now. It is completely digital simply because it gives the employer enormous reach and the potential employee a vast plethora of opportunities. Also, what you do outside of your regular work tasks, is equally important. Your participation in events, memberships, followers and communities create a more holistic picture of who you are as a person. Telepresence has extended the reach to geographies that would otherwise have been impossible to scout.
Discussing prospects with a candidate through the social media, enhances the chances to know him better as the conversation is more prompt and informal. It feels like nobody is judging and the creative engagement is more likely.
