Avaya Solutions (Hardware & Software) – A Case Study
The Client:
Government Military Institution
The client wanted their engineers to be trained on Avaya acquired solutions.
The Challenges:
- The skill level of the people to be trained was not uniform and some of them didn’t have the basic understanding of networks and IP-telephony.
- There were only 6 servers including 2 for the conference. In duplex mode, you need 2 servers per students’ group, which meant that there were only 2 training nodes for 12 students.
RationalSelling Solution:
- With limited hardware, the trainer decided to use only one server per group and use virtualization. However, the site did not have VMware software.
- Some Avaya applications acquired were also missing. The trainer downloaded some of them directly.
- The trainer created a proper environment with an NTP server, a Domain server, a DNS server under VMware.
- The Avaya partner got the remaining applications including the Avaya Aura® Appliance Virtualization Platform, VMware based, which was critical to move forward with the training program.
- Trainer organized the course flow in a way that was convenient for the different level of technical skills of the students.
RationalSelling was required to provide the following services for this Avaya Customer [Ministry of Defense, École d’Application des Transmissions, Koléa, Algeria] along with 30 days of effective training on client site using their Avaya deployed Solution:
- Avaya AURA Communication Manager: Installation, Maintenance and Administration
- Session and System Manager SMGR/SM: installation, Maintenance and Administration
- DECT: Installation, Maintenance and Administration
- One X Attendant = Admin and End-user training and practical hands-on
- Local Survivable Processor (LSP) Install and Administration
- Avaya Aura Communication Manager ACM Duplex: installation, Maintenance and Administration
- Avaya Aura® Conferencing 8.0 AAC Install and Administration
- AAM (Avaya Aura Messaging)
The following was the training calendar that we designed and implemented:
Outcomes:
We were able to move forward by meeting the training objectives.
- Avaya Aura® Session and System Manager, the Session Initiated Protocol (SIP) based architecture.
- Avaya Aura® Communication Manager, an IP Telephony foundation
- Avaya G450 Media Gateway ) and
- Avaya Unified Communication Applications (OneX Attendant / Conferencing /Avaya Aura® Messaging).
The client also wanted us to address other concepts like:
- Avaya Application Enablement Services AES and
- Digital Enhanced Cordless Telephony (DECT).
To accommodate this requirement, we extended the training an additional week. The trainer trained during 6 weeks for 6 consecutive days for 12 students who had no skills in network and telephony and were working in a very limited physical server environment.
Value to the client:
- All the students were able to complete the required hands-on labs even though it was slow and tiresome.
- Students could make detailed notes and videos of the most complex parts of the courses for future review.
- The groups were organized to allow some of the students to become instructors who could replicate the training later on.
